River sand clay body Footed Cups

Footed Teacups
In Japan these cups are called 'Yunomi' and are everyday drinking cups. They have a tall foot to hold while the body of the cup is too hot to grip. You can hold the cup by the rim and foot and then wait for your chosen drink to come to a drinkable temperature and then they are lovely clasp in your hands.

Two Footed Cups made from a high fired stoneware clay. This particular clay is my own experimental clay body. It's made from two different types of ball clay, one from Dorset, UK and one from Devon, UK plus 20% of an iron rich river sand from about 30 mins from my studio. The river sand gives the clay a great texture and a pleasing speckle under the glaze and slip layers.

Gas/wood fired to 1300°C in a reduction atmosphere.
